The aim of the SKILL Programme is to
"Educate, develop and train support staff in the health services to the optimum of their abilities in order to enhance their role in the quality of service to patients/clients."
The SKILL Programme is an historic and exciting initiative, which was established following “Recognising and Respecting the Role” strategy document. This programme is uniquely funded specifically to educate, train and develop 32,000 support staff and their line managers/supervisors in the Irish Health Services. The programme is being independently evaluated to establish if there is a return on investment in terms of improved services to patients/clients.
The whole purpose of the SKILL Programme is to give recognition to support staff and their supervisors who work at the front line of our health and personal social services. The SKILL Programme recognises their various jobs, skills and experiences, and then develops and acknowledges this expertise through national certification with the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC).
