SKILL Programme & JFK, Jr. Fellowships
The overall goal of the Fellowship Programme is to improve the quality of services to individuals and families by educating and strengthening the frontline workforce.
This Scholarship and Career Mentoring Programme created by John F. Kennedy, Jr. in 1989, was made available for the first time ever outside New York State and the United States of America to the SKILL Programme in 2006 by special arrangement with the John F. Kennedy, Jr. Institute for Worker Education, City University of New York.

What is involved?
Kennedy Fellows receive $1,500 payment/stipend per annum for two years of academic study. Depending on the structure of the educational programme a payment of $750 per semester of study for up to four semesters over a two year period will be made. The award is in respect of tuition, books, instructional material, transportation, student fees, childcare, and other expenses associated with higher education.
Who is eligible and what criteria is involved?

Employment: Applicants must have at least one year of continuous satisfactory employment as a support staff employee in the Irish health and personal social services.
Eligibility: The grades of support staff eligible for the 2008-2010 Fellowship awards were those covered by the parallel benchmarking agreement and currently employed in the specifically targeted areas i.e. intellectual disability services, acute care services, older people and mental health services.
College: Applicants must have enrolled or be awaiting enrolment for an advanced certificate, diploma or degree in health and social services or education fields for the current academic year with a third level Higher Education Institution in Ireland.
