What do I have to do?
The first thing you have to do is talk to your line manager about your wish to participate on a SKILL programme. You will need to find out what exactly the SKILL programme entails and how to go about enrolling.
You can also contact your local HR/Personnel/Performance and Development Department, HSE SKILL Co-ordinator to find out more about the programmes. For most HSE agencies there are local processes established, mainly through the HR/Personnel/Performance and Development Department, for support staff to enrol on SKILL programmes.
Application Process.
Talk to your line manager and ask for your local SKILL application form, usually available from your HSE local HR/Personnel/Performance and Development section.
PLA Pre-Learning Advice.
Every individual participating will have the opportunity to undergo a pre-assessment and guidance session on a one to one basis with a tutor. This is known as a Pre-Learning Advice (PLA).
The PLA is not an 'interview' or a bureaucratic hurdle, nor is it a job assessment. It takes the form of a general introductory talk on the award/course, followed by a one-to-one chat.
